HISTORY & A BRIEF INTRODUCTION

The Royal College of Physicians & Surgeons is the most prestigious, exclusive, and oldest medical institution in the world. The British started the first Royal College in the year 1645, and admitted the most famous doctors, who in turn, trained selected but few other physicians, and honored them with distinct titles signifying membership in the Royal College of Physicians (MRCP), as well as the College of Surgeons (MRCS etc…).

After several years of experience, following the MRCP or MRCS award, physicians were selected (not upon their own initiation or application) by the College for further screening and evaluation of their background. They were then bestowed with the honor of becoming a Fellow (FRCP; FRCS), the highest ranks any physician could expect to achieve in their lifetime. The esteemed Royal College consists of an exclusive and honorable group of distinguished, eminent practitioners of medicine and surgery around the world. The history of specialty medicine mirrors the rise and advancement of modern health care. The Royal College, it’s Members/Fellows and its partners have played a vital role in improving patient health through clinical excellence, scientific breakthroughs, educational excellence and a commitment to high-quality care.

In keeping with current advances in medical science and technology, the Royal College of the Turks & Caicos, BWI recognizes interventional radiologists, interventional pain management specialists, spinal endoscopists, gastroenterologists, laparoscopic general surgeons, neurologists, and gynecologists performing minimally invasive procedures as candidates for Membership and Fellowship in the Royal College of Surgeons. Percutaneous tissue sparing techniques provide needle biopsy, laser and radio frequency ablation, tube insertion for drainage or feeding, embolization to stop bleeding, stent-grafting, and precise delivery of chemotherapeutic agents without the need for general anesthesia or open surgery or transfusion.

The physicians/surgeon who achieves either the Membership or Fellowship of the Royal College is authorized to use the titles: MRCP, MRCS, FRCP, FRCS, etc… on their letter heads and or business cards. The moment physicians/surgeons become members of fellows of this distinct, elite, and professional organization, it creates a dramatic change in esteem. This is the highest level of recognition and honor, a cumulative lifetime achievement award in the medical professions.

Within the last several years, The Royal College has worked diligently to address a growing demand by physicians/surgeons, from all over the world, who desired to garner academic credit for the many years of research performed within their respective medical and surgical disciplines. To this end, the Royal College, in affiliation with the Victoria Global University, is the first cyber-academic institution of its kind, offering MD/M.S. and PhD/D.Sc.) in clinical research for licensed health care professionals. Through the increasingly popular concept of the virtual campus, licensed providers of the healing arts can now complete individually designed degree programs, at their own pace, and without the need to leave their busy practices.

The following countries have a Royal College: United States of America, England, Ireland, Australia, South Africa, Canada, Thailand, etc. These are sister colleges and are independent of one another.

In cooperation with few associations which offer an acceptable competitive examination and screen their members for certification, the Royal College will accept or reciprocate such written examinations as equivalent to that of the Royal College. Therefore, if a candidate passes an approved written exam of an equally reputable association, the Royal College will accept the score as equivalent, and will waive the written tests for such candidates. If your association is interested in such and arrangement, we require a sample of their exam; and we will determine its acceptability. We reserve the right to accept, reject, or modify the exam to conform to the standard of the Royal College. The written exam may be waived but there is no waiver for either the oral test and the fee for the membership, fellowship, and master certificates.

If you want to know whether your association or a particular group is on our approved list for written examination waivers, please contact the Royal College, and we shall notify you as soon as possible. You are welcomed to apply to our fine, distinguished medical institution which is rooted in classical tradition. We have medical journals which circulate to members and fellows, promoting continuing education; provide a forum for the exchange of ideas and medical information between Royal College communities.
